"The Weekend Australian" Newspaper ~ Interview & Article
As industry leaders, Résumés At Work® has been interviewed and featured in an article highlighting the value of hiring a high-quality résumé-writing service. The article was published in the Careers Section of Australia's premier national weekend newspaper "The Weekend Australian". (Article written by journalist Denise Cullen).
There's a big difference between a professional product created by a résumé writer with recognised credentials and qualifications (and a thorough understanding of the subtleties of the local job market) and the secretarial service which cranks out cookie-cutter style documents.
"There are a lot of operators entering the market and producing work which is substandard," says Trish Allen, Principal of Résumés At Work. "When the poor-quality documents they produce don't deliver job seekers with the increased competitive advantage and interviews they expected, some get understandably angry and dejected. I know this because I often clean up after them... (and by the time clients come to me) they are initially distrustful of what I can do for them."
Pierre Lawrence, a Manager based in Sydney, once paid a résumé writer $50 to polish up his CV. "She sent it out to three people," he says with a laugh. "That was four years ago and I still haven't had any calls back."
More recently, he paid Allen more than 10 times that amount to create a résumé and covering letter for him, and says it was worth every cent. "It made a huge difference. I sent that résumé out to six employment agents and I had calls back from five of them immediately."
He ultimately walked into a job with a $13,000 salary increase on his previous income, which demonstrates the industry view that the right résumé is an investment which carries negligible risk but unlimited upside potential.
Lawrence advises job seekers not to worry about how much it costs: "You'll get your money back in the next job."
"The Sunday Mail" Newspaper ~ Interview & Article
Résumés At Work has also been interviewed and featured in an article titled Give it a Touch of Class, which was published in the Smart Money section of Queensland's premier metropolitan, and statewide, Sunday newspaper "The Sunday Mail".
Want an investment with negligible risk but unlimited potential? Brisbane manager Stefan Bader is speaking from experience when he says paying to get your résumé professionally written is “one of the best investments you can make because it opens the doors to a potential increase in income”.
Dissatisfied in a sales role and itching for something different, Mr Bader last year paid Résumés At Work...a few hundred dollars to compile a résumé...and application letter to get his job hunt off to a flying start.
While he doesn’t want to divulge his income, he says he’s now “much happier and in a much better environment” working in a new management role with a blue-chip building company.
“From an investment point of view, the risk you’re taking is limited to the money you put in to get that service - say $500,” he said. “But the return can be unlimited (even if you’re just) looking at an extra $10,000 a year...”
There are reasons why commissioning a high quality document can deliver a rapid return, said Trish Allen, principal of Résumés At Work.
"The number and quality of interviews you win will often be in direct proportion to the quality of your résumé," she said. "If your résumé is average or below average, the job opportunities you are likely to attract will also be average or below average, regardless of your qualifications."
"Employers and recruiters are bombarded daily with hundreds of résumés and under the weight of so many applications, they don't have the time to read between the lines. It is those applicants who can clearly and effectively showcase what they have to offer who will win the opportunities and this is where a skilled professional résumé-writer can help significantly."
Mr Bader said the do-it-yourself-approach was no longer effective because the employment market was so competitive. “Twenty-five years ago, things were very different and you could probably knock something out yourself, but now that’s not enough,” he says.
The same article provides the following recommendations for choosing a high-quality résumé-writing service to optimise your career transition:
When you're contemplating...hiring a professional résumé-writing service...here are a few tips:
Look for recognised credentials, such as qualifications from the Professional Association of Résumé Writers and Career Coaches.
Steer clear of secretarial services masquerading as résumé-writing services. These services often charge "bargain" prices and rely on high-volume turnover to make a profit.
Ask to see samples of a résumé-writer's work before you buy.
Ensure the service produces custom-written résumés unique to your individual circumstances - the last thing you want is a mass-produced document."
